Manna . . . and More
. . . in On the evening of December 24, 2007, a group of people gathered at the home of Charlie and Judy Mann in Derwood. This group spent a few hours preparing for what has become a Christmas tradition for the Mann family. This tradition involves the distribution of food, clothing, and other items on Christmas Day. This year, the distribution took place in Langley Park. The group that gathered on Christmas Eve sorted clothes and prepared packages of food that included fruit and vegetables, bread and pastries, and other products. Everything was loaded into cars and vans in preparation for the next day’s activities. On Christmas morning, a small caravan drove from the Mann home to the area of Langley Park in which the distribution was to take place. Others met at the distribution site. While some from the group went into apartment buildings to knock on doors to announce that free food and other items were being distributed in the parking lot, others began the process of unloading the cars and vans that were packed the previous night. Many people who live in the neighborhood came out to receive the blessing that was being offered on Christmas. And those neighborhood residents received eagerly and with thanksgiving. But it was not only individuals from the neighborhood who were blessed . . . those who took part in the preparation and distribution were grateful to be part of a tradition that is so appropriate for honoring the Lord on Christmas day.
